Neil Sharma MD is a President of Parkview Health
Dr. Sharma received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and did his residency in Internal Medicine at the H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida (USF). Dr. Sharma got multiple awards for his teaching and training while serving as Chief Resident. He earned a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology while at USF. At The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he completed a fellowship focused on advanced interventional endoscopy and endoscopic oncology.
Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, gastric cancer, bile duct cancers and disorders, and minimally invasive endoscopic surgical procedures such as ERCP, EUS, ESD, and other endoscopic resections and ablations are among Dr. Sharma’s areas of expertise and research focus.
In 2013, Dr. Sharma took his experience to Parkview Health in Fort Wayne, IN, where he founded the Advanced Interventional Endoscopy and Endoscopic Oncology programs. He continues to serve as the program director and has led the program to new levels and national prominence, now known as “IOSE” (Interventional Endoscopy, Oncology, and Surgical Endoscopy programs).
As Medical Director of the GI Oncology program, I oversaw its rapid expansion and collaborated with doctors from Indiana University and around the area. It has promoted interdisciplinary care efforts and generated research. Dr. Sharma has started medical studies, established novel surgical methods, and developed interdisciplinary, patient-centered care. Dr. Sharma has also devised an unified presentation for all patients with foregut GI tumors via a tumor board to promote and assure real multidisciplinary treatment throughout this time. In 2014, he established Parkview’s first patient- and disease-centered clinic, in which numerous experts saw a patient at the same time.
